Grief, Loss, and Faith

Tragedy can strike anyone at any time.  Today our community suffered an enormous loss.  A young child lost his life in the presence of his family and other family members are in critical condition.  At times like this is when our faith is tested and we realize that we are part of a human family that needs each other.  Strangers become our support and love comes from unexpected places.  As a society we've become so isolated and detached.  A loss awakens our heart at the deepest level and can open us to love again.  Where is God at a time like this?  He's in the eyes, hands, words, and heart of the people that surround us.  He loves us through each other.  He quickens our heart to touch, heal, and care.  So I pray that I may love those around me not with my heart, but the heart of God who reaches through me to those in need.  When God whispers "take them some food" or "gather money for their daily needs" or "pray" I hope I have the ears to hear and the obedience to act.
